About the Author
Ferran Adria (b.1962) is recognized as the best chef in the world. His legendary talent, creativity and gastronomic innovations have inspired chefs and food-lovers around the world for many years. Albert Adria (b.1969) joined elBulli in 1985 and quickly developed a passion for pastry. He was creative director of the elBulli workshop, as well as being responsible for 'the sweet world'. In writing Power-Up, I wanted to take what I had learned about Japanese art and culture and apply it to the video games that I had grown up loving so much, in an attempt to explain why Japan had been so successful throughout the world, from such an early point in gaming history. 
I wrote this book while living in Kyoto, Japan, just a few minutes' walk down the road from the original Nintendo Playing Cards building. It's a snapshot of that year of my life, as well as a history and profile of Japanese games from Super Mario to Final Fantasy to Ico. 
For the revised 2016 edition available from Dover Publications, I wrote the only thing that seemed appropriate: an all-new chapter paying tribute to the life and work of Nintendo's late president Satoru Iwata.

About the Author

Chris Kohler currently lives in North Branford, Connecticut. He graduated summa cum laude from Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts in May 2002, receiving a BA in Japanese and the Japanese Language and Literature Prize. First, this book is written in both Dutch and English. Don't let the 'Dutch Edition'description put you off. The measured drawings are in millimeters and there is enough information to accurately build the furniture.If you're used to building craftsman furniture, some of these pieces may seem minimalist and stark. If you give it a second look you'll find some absolutely beautiful pieces. The construction appears to be time consuming, but not all that difficult.For some of the pieces (the 'Z' chair in particular) I would be sorely tempted to add modern materials, i.e. some Kevlar in the acute angles. Kevlar deals well with cycles of compression and expansion.This furniture is a refreshing change from anything I've seen featured in U.S. woodworking magazines. It's different, it's lovely to look at (several pieces are displayed at MOMA in New York) and it doesn't look too challenging to build.

This book (written in English and Dutch) is a great resource if you want to create Reitveld furniture and accessories. The drawings and instructions for over three dozen pieces are easily understood by anyone with well-developed woodworking skills. This work is not for beginners because fit & finish are of utmost importance in Reitveld designs-- and it takes time to develop the experience necessary to achieve good results. Most of these pieces can be built without power tools; but electric saws, drills, sanders, and a router will make the work faster and more uniform. If your paint skills are not up to par you should have someone available to execute this very important aspect of the work.

About the Author
Garinè B. Isassi is a former singer/songwriter who grew up with one foot in Texas and the other in New Jersey. A graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, she is a lover of music, chocolate, and altruistic sarcasm; a writer of post-punk humor; and the illustrious founder of Helicopter Moms Anonymous. She is proud of her Armenian-American heritage, but tired of explaining it. She currently lives in Maryland, where she works full time in marketing communications, sings in a gospel choir, is the Workshops Chair for the Gaithersburg Book Festival, over-volunteers for a variety of community organizations, writes when everyone else is asleep, and lives with her husband, three kids, a cat, a dog, and a gecko (it’s the gecko that sent her over the edge).
