About the Author

Violet Oaklander is the author of the book Windows To Our Children: A Gestalt Therapy Approach to Children and Adolescents (which is available in thirteen languages), several journal articles and book chapters for other people's books, as well as videotapes and audio tapes on psychotherapeutic work with children. She has a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology; a Master of Arts in Marriage, Family and Child Counseling; and a Master of Science in Special Education with emotionally disturbed children. She completed three years of training with the Los Angeles Gestalt Therapy Institute and has been certified since 1973. She taught emotionally disturbed children in the Long Beach, CA school district for six years, and from 1972 until 1999 maintained a full time private practice in Long Beach, Hermosa Beach and later in Santa Barbara, CA. Since 1999, Dr. Oaklander has focused her work on training, teaching, supervision and writing. Dr. Oaklander spent many years as an instructor for the extension program of the University of California at the campuses in Santa Cruz, Santa Barbara, and San Diego and has been an adjunct faculty member of Pacifica Graduate Institute located in Carpenteria, CA as well as the California Graduate Institute in Santa Barbara. She has traveled extensively throughout the country and the world giving training seminars on her approach to working with children and adolescents. Dr. Oaklander's unique approach to working with children -- which combines Gestalt Therapy theory, philosophy, and practice with a variety of expressive techniques -- has won international recognition and she has received several awards for her cotribution to the mental health field.

As a clinical social worker, children love working with me and love coming back time and again. But I admit that I have much more of a knack for working towards change with adults, despite loving working with children. I am a relational/experiential psychotherapist in the camp of Dr. Fosha's approach, and I love Gestalt therapy as well. To try and find congruent approaches to work with youth and make what I do actually therapeutic has been a struggle.That is why I feel such a sense of coming home with this book. It is exactly the way I have been dying to find that I didn't know existed. I have studied the play and art methods outlined in this book but she has a particular Gestaltean approach that reorients these methods to be much more experiential, emotion and growth focused and fun. Gestalt therapy is simply made for children! It's so imaginative, spontaneous, and playful. Children just resonate with it fantastically!And the author's passion and love of children is profoundly heart warming and touching.The book is pretty process oriented and not always linear in presentation, which may put some people off. But feels like that off the wall Gestalt expression such as in the early Gestalt writings. Has many great transcripts with real sessions. Extremely helpful in learning the approach.I am in debt to this great human being for such a transmission of a lifetime of devoting to children's well being. This book has many therapeutic ideas for groups. As a therapist I highly recommend it; however, some of the activities seems to work better with younger children.

More casualties were on the Union side, but the arithmetic was such that more northern troops could die and be wondered and captured and still damage the fortunes of the Army of Northern Virginia. The latter, simply, had fewer troops to spare.The Wilderness marked the first of many battles featuring Ulysses Grant squaring off against Robert E. Lee (with General George Meade caught in an uncomfortable position as commanding general of the Army of the Potomac, with Grant right up there on the battlefield--often giving key orders). Union forces wanted to move forward quickly, to clear the Wilderness--a large piece of land featuring second growth trees, making it a difficult place for a battle. The conflict itself was confusing and deadly. Fires began in the foliage, killing many wounded troops who could not escape.The book focuses on two issues, as per the structure of the series: (a) a relatively brief discussion of the battle; (b) how to go to the battlefield and see major parts of the landscape to envision better the battle itself. Both are done well.Thne battle was a mess. Both sides would make successful thrusts and then suffer setbacks. One critical moment was when James Longstreet's First Corps was able to outflank Winfield Scott Hancock's Second Corps and give it a drubbing. As Longstreet tried to maximize the struggle, he was shot by hos own troops by mistake--almost one year after Stonewall Jackson died after being shot by his troops.Finally, the armies separated. Grant moved south, unlike other Union commanders who had run into Robert E. Lee. And the War in the East continued. . . .

The book is accurate in all matters. It is brief in some aspects of the battle,but all in all, the book is well worth the time one will spend reading it, and seeing some new aspects of the battle. I felt that more space should have been spent on the deaths of brigade commanders and probably how this decided the outcome of the battle.

I found the book to be very though provoking, and overall a very easy read. Would highly recommend for those who have a inclination into the psychology of life.

This is NOT an unabridged audio edition of the book of the same name. It's some kind of digest, with excerpts read in various voices.

I got this on Audible and really love it. I am a big believer in flow and it's importance on a persons well being. The author no only touches on many areas of flow but also how they impact many facets of an individuals life. I really enjoyed the way he narrates the book as well. It feels as though he is having a casual conversation with you. Very relaxed and insightful. This is a great book to read for your self but also a great book to read if you have children. It is important to find opportunities for them to experience their own flow so they know how to create it when they are older. Great book.

Many of the feudal Russian states minted coins of their own starting in the 14th century, using new and original designs and naming their own rulers. The coinage, almost unknown in the West, exhibits a fascinating diversity, with many hundreds of types in silver and bronze produced. These early coins include imitations of the Mongol (Golden Horde) dangs, coins combining Russian elements and Islamic elements and, finally, a huge range of purely Russian coins showing a surprising variety of designs including biblical themes and verses, mythological themes and animals, numerous violent scenes of fighting, stabbings, decapitations and other things one might expect from medieval coins. Other strange things found on these coins are designs showing Alexander of Macedon, scenes of homage, scenes of coin minting and ever-present Russian inscriptions naming the ruling Dukes. This catalogue includes descriptions and images of many hundreds of coins, from the inception of the native Russian coinage to the eventual unification of types under the Vasily Ivanovich of Moscow (1505-1533). Coins of the Russian states which were not conquered by Moscow (such as Lithuania and Red Russia) are also included this book. The relative rarity ranking for all the listed coins is also given, which should be of immense help to any collector of medieval coins. The information is based on the most modern numismatic research available, but is presented in a simple-to-use way, aiming to introduce this fascinating coinage to the wide circle of both collectors and researchers. This book is an English version of "Russian Coins 1353-1533" edition of 2013 which has now become a standard catalogue for Russian medieval coins collectors being actually a first publication of such scale since 19th century catalogues.
